The Chameleon Academy is for those who love chameleons. Within these digital halls we learn what it takes to successfully keep chameleons healthy and living long from caging to natural history to breeding. My name is Bill Strand and I have been involved with chameleons for over 40 years. I have bred them retail, wholesale, and large scale. I have kept over 30 species of chameleon and have learned what to do and what not to do. Subscribe to this channel for a regular look into the fascinating world of chameleon husbandry!

Secrets to selecting plants for chameleon cages
The build looks great! Fun tip on the measurement thing!
Thanks for lesson and the measurement tip 🙌 great episode
Had to come back and watch since I missed the live 😊
Heyyyyy🎉🎉🎉🎉
Amazing chanel So we should keep eggs 23 degrees Celsius and air humidity 80%?
Now that's one tiny deathclaw
Beautiful animals!! I’m excited to see an update on the shamrocks, with out the vlogs we don’t get to see them as often :)
What an amazing false chameleon presentation.
Wow, what amazing chameleons! Awesome live showcasing these beautiful dragons.
What a great show !! just love that introduction to Parsons
Yes we can hear you
Genuinely thought the chameleon was recording and accidentally got in frame😭
One year later and they are finally being brought back in. Super stoked for to finally get this species after years of waiting!
Earned a follow. I love your presentation of the information. Thank you
I just got a panther he eats from the tweezers but his tounge gets stuck on them.. I wanna try and hand feed him but I always drop the roach or crickets even the super worms when I try.. Lol any suggestions
Loving these episodes! Keep up the great work 👍
Could you use a chameleon enclosure for them? I’m just curious.
I believe it was Abronia lizard. Spell check must have changed to Ambrosia.🤦♂
That makes sense!!
Wow, that was a fun chat !!! See you all tomorrow at 5 AM for DIY Chamaeleon guys
Something tells me they don't like to be held
Why are these species eyes sunken in?
Chameleons can do that when stressed or when going through health issues
Hi do chameleons and anole lizards need direct sunlight or can you keep them outside under a tree in the shade. Thanks in advance.
They need UVB light to synthesize vitamin D3 and the sunlight to warm up
I put my drains below and drill holes to them so the water does not have to reach the level of the drain to leave. I screw it on and seal with pure silicone.
Paul Sullivan and Russel Lee 4 decades ago and by jingo they were way ahead of the curve. I thank them greatly for that and I had years of rewarding “keeping” with my T quadricornis. Cheers guys.
Solid info
If you want to move it outside, do you make it a hybrid or just keep it screen?
Outside is 100% screen
Kids that grow up on spaceships will swear it’s ai and nothing can look that insane
Great info!
I want to get a veiled chameleon but Im hearing that the jacksons chameleon are a lot more easier
Jacksons are more demanding as far as environmental conditions. Veiled are, by far, the most tolerant of conditions of the three. I love Jackson’s so much, but I have to concede they are not the best pets because of their need for that nighttime drop and low daytime temperatures to stay healthy.
@@ChameleonAcademy :) thank you so much for the advice I love chameleons and I was thinking of starting off with a veiled chameleon
@@michaelvessella5469 I think a Veiled chameleon would be an excellent one to start off with. Warning: the biggest trap new veiled chameleon keepers fall into is cutting corners on getting a good cage, lighting, and hydration system because of the low cost of a veiled chameleon. They end up having a poor experience and the chameleon has a sad life. Get your Veiled, but spoil him rotten with the best you can get. You’ll have a great experience that way.
@@ChameleonAcademy :) thank you so much funny to because I was actually just trying to look for a good cage and stuff online Ive been watching a lot of your videos and they've helped out so much with me wanting to get my own chameleon
@@michaelvessella5469 then I will take this opportunity to plug for the Dragon Strand Tall Hybrid. It is the one cage that comes with all the things you would have to add if you got other cheaper cages. dragonstrand.com/product/tall-hybrid-chameleon-cage-system/
I got bit in the neck today, by a veiled chameleon. My own fault really for letting him climb all over me lol. I was wondering what is the best way to get them to let go, because he would not let go.
Really had fun with this episode thank you all for being there and supporting us❤
Cage wrestling 😂
So funny 😂 didn’t realize that was going to be the comedy part
Plumbers putty 😁
hey question here, i have roughly a year old male panther chameleon, he is a blue nosy be panther and i’m wondering if he will grab more colors around his mouth and belly, yellow mouth and red spots show on his body but i’m wondering if he will get more colors later
I wish I could buy a helmeted chameleon now
Hi Bill. Great video as always. I wondered if I could ask you what kind of camera you are using for this baby Cham ? Also is it the kind that can be linked to a phone ? It seems to have the “zoom?” I’m looking for specifically for my tiny Tropicolotes steudneri. I’m also considering another for my female F pardalis. Thanx :)
I love how they look constantly pissed.
Is a 5x3x4 large enough? Personaly i prefer horizontal vs vertical js.
That would be a good set of dimensions
Needed this video for a refresher today! Thanks again for making it!
Great shows guys! Love the house of hydro foggers ! Thank you John!
What a great show what a great learning experience thank you, John , look forward to the future of fogging with you and your company
I use all of the hydrstions methods but i was told by a admin in a panther chameleon facebook group that to only fog when the temperature is 65degrees or lower if its any higher i was told that my panther chameleon could get respiratory issues. Is this true by any means because i cant ever get my cage lower than 69 degrees at night time.
Most husbandry "rules" have many facets to them. The rule that Petr is providing is an easy one to follow that has a high chance of success. And that is why he makes that line. An RI comes from the body's immune system being compromised. At what point the moisture content breathed in is physically stressful is unknown. But fogging at 65F is a high confidence point. I am sorry that there isn't a black and white answer to your question. Nature doesn't care about our need for definitive answers! The best you can do when starting off is pick a community you enjoy and learn as much as you can from them knowing that others will do it differently and have different levels of success. Just beware of picking individual parts from different communities. All of these husbandry methods are deeply dependent on the way the other parameters are presented. Did that make sense? It is difficult giving a true answer to a topic that is so complex. Would fogging at 69 be so much different? Probably not, but that doesn't mean it is wrong to shoot for 65 when giving short sound bite statements on the internet.
@ChameleonAcademy I am in the panther chameleons group and I talk to todd arban that is a admin in a lot of reptile groups he has rehomed many reptiles and I get a lot of my information from him. Also I've been trying to find a video for combing both xl cages together a step by step process would be excellent.
@@HosaBosa check out this video where combining the XL cages is one of the top five ways to improve your chameleon's life. ua-cam.com/video/sDng_7HmibA/v-deo.htmlsi=2Qy7-QbL142MrJUU
@@HosaBosa And, if you have access to a 3D printer take a look at the 3D printer projects section of the Dec 2023 issue of the Chameleon Academy Journal for a free download of mending plates to combine two Reptibreeze XLs chameleonacademy.com/chameleon-academy-journal/
@ChameleonAcademy oh sweet that's awesome I actually have two really great 3d printers k1 max and p1s with the ams so that would definitely help. I love reptiles and 3d printing so I wanted to start my own business and kind of combine them together.
I recently found your channel, your content is priceless 🙌🏻 thank you very much
Hi, I am getting a panther chameleon and I was hoping you could tell me what heat bulb and what basking light and what you UVB bulbs you use. I have a 24” X 24” X 48” enclosure. I don’t know how far I should do the UVB light to because the sola meter doesn’t fit inside my budget. When I get him I want him to have his best life!
for the heat bulb use the deep dome fixtures with a 60-75W heat bulb. For the UVB take a look at the Panther Chameleon care guide where it talks about the UVB lights and the distances for a panther chameleon. Take a look at this link and let me know if this answers your questions. Thank you for the Super Thanks! ua-cam.com/video/iajnbg7b_1o/v-deo.htmlsi=vWo3rsfktx-aHQIs
Is my chameleon still stressed if I put my hand in the enclosure and he crawls out onto it on
Either he is not stressed by your hand or he is more concerned about something else and sees your hand as a way to escape.

You have published a wonderful environment creation. Japan will be facing a warm season from now on. I hope many Japanese people will watch this video and use it as a reference.
So cool!!
Loved the video, hope to learn more about the adjuster thingy for different sizes of droplets, will be ordering my setup soon!
